17 February 2005 - Last Chance to have your say on the future of the Power Station

It’s your last chance to have your say on the East Perth Redevelopment Authority’s (EPRA) draft Masterplan for the East Perth Power Station, with the three-month community consultation period closing on 28 February 2005.

Public response to the plan has been positive, with a steady stream of feedback sheets, emails and written submissions rolling into EPRA’s offices on a daily basis since the launch of the plan on 7 November last year.

EPRA Chief Executive Officer, Tony Morgan said approximately 120 submissions had been received so far, collected from a variety of sources including community open days, the dedicated project website and written responses from community and stakeholders.

“From analysis of the submissions received to date, the results have been extremely encouraging with 87% of respondents in favour of the draft Masterplan,” said Mr Morgan.

“In addition to the community submissions, EPRA also undertook a random survey on the draft Masterplan, which consulted 400 extra people from both the local community and the wider Perth metropolitan area.”

“The results of the survey were in line with the other submissions we have received, with 85% of those surveyed in favour of the draft Masterplan.”

Mr Morgan said both the submission and survey results were very pleasing as they proved that EPRA was on the right track with its planning for the 8.5 hectare site.

Mr Morgan said the draft Masterplan for the site provided for two different built form options, which vary in height and scale.

“Our market research statistics show that both options were well received by the community, with the majority of survey participants rating both positively, however the lower rise Option Two, the ‘Urban Garden Model’, is generally preferred, with 81 percent rating it good to excellent,” said Mr Morgan.

EPRA is keen to gather as much feedback as possible on the draft Masterplan before the close of the consultation period on 28 February and the preparation of the final Masterplan, to be released later this year.
