Landscaping and Public Open Spaces

Key features of the landscape plan, which will showcase the history of the site and Western Australia wherever possible, include:

  • A grand forecourt of trees and landscape to provide space for large groups of people.
  • Courts created to the north of the main building to provide alfresco entertainment, exhibition and breakout spaces.
  • Renewal and regeneration of natural local habitats on the river edge.
  • The geometry of the central plaza and forecourt will be reminiscent of the flows of electricity and energy through the power grids with a sculptural piece of the old power grid infrastructure at its point. The space will be planted with large trees with views and a continuous green band through the centre of the development.
  • A heritage rose garden, originally created by the workers, will contrast with the immense scale of the power station.
  • A boulevard of trees along Summers Street; and
  • Deciduous trees along the north-south landscape linkages to provide shade in summer and sunlight in winter.
