Key features

The goal for the China Green development is to celebrate Subiaco and incorporate new and successful elements of international design philosophies. This will mean building a vibrant community and encouraging residents to enjoy a quality mix of cultural, recreation, living and working opportunities.

China Green will link with Subi Centro’s Green Spine and the park at Subiaco Common, which currently runs east-west through Subi Centro, to provide quality gardens and public spaces for residents, workers and visitors to enjoy. A strong, active front to Hay Street will extend the successful Subi Centro commercial precinct into China Green.

A variety of housing types will cater to different people while a strong road network will link with wider Subiaco.

The key features of China Green include:

• A residential and commercial development based around Transit Oriented Development principles with a variety of housing types and land uses to integrate with the surrounding community;
• Simple, clear and high standards of sustainability;
• Pedestrian friendly design;
• Legible street connections through the site and with surrounding areas to slow and minimise traffic through the site;
• Buildings will face north to capture sun in winter and avoid heat gain in summer and address the streets and a central open space. Varying building heights and rooflines will enliven streets with natural light and respect the existing residential developments in Darbon Crescent and Price Street;
• Open spaces will form a spine linking Daglish Park in Jolimont to Subiaco Common;
• The interaction between public and private realm, placement of street lighting and landscaping design will create a safer community;
• Interpretation of the significance of the site’s heritage, character and place in Subiaco; and
• Public art will tell the social, cultural and commercial story of the previous operations of the AFC company.
